I've had enough of the cargo cult. We have too much stuff in our lives.
The stuff you own ends up owning you.
I've started giving gifts from The Worlds most Useful Gift Catalogue
They're apparently Christians but the website assures me they don't proselytize.
Last year I got me ma a goat:

We used to do a similar thing with Oxfam. If you read the fine print on the Oxfam card they don't actually guarantee a goat at all, just the same dollar value will go to their operations. I was a bit disappointed, because I really like the idea.
Close enough...
If I buy a goat, does the money actually go to buy a goat?
All donations received from the Gift Catalogue are allocated to the projects providing the items selected. So, when you purchase a goat, your donation supports a project in Afghanistan or Bangladesh that has goat rearing as one of its components. We calculate the amount so that it includes a goat and contributes to training in animal husbandry.

I know, it's a great idea, didn't mean to knock it :)
I just liked the idea of purchasing an actual goat, no matter how impracticable ;)
